What We Do?

A red starfish on sand

Our goal is to build disciples through sharing God’s love with the people of Jamaica.

We share God’s love by:

  • Spending time with and praying for each of our families

  • Providing substantial monthly food boxes

  • Providing diapers, wipes and Pediasure/ Carnation Instant Breakfast when available

  • Providing transportation to medical appointments

  • Helping with funding of doctor and hospital visits

  • Helping supply school needs when possible

  • Providing short-term mission opportunities

  • Home repair, home visits, packing food boxes, evangelism outreach

Our Purpose

The purpose of Starfish Ministries Jamaica can be summed up in one  God-given instruction: “help”.  Spiritually, our help begins and ends with sharing the love of Jesus to everyone whom God sends to us.  Physically, help includes providing substantial monthly food boxes, needed prescriptions, transportation for medical care – doctor, hospital and specific medical visits along with the funding for these visits-, some school supplies and support to parents.  When possible, we also provide both minor and major housing improvements often with the help of mission teams from the States. Also, we coordinate short-term mission teams and interns to provide first-hand experience in life on the mission field.

KIDS FIRST to JAMAICA

Kids First began its mission program in the summer of 2017 when Larry and his daughter, Lawson, lead a Vacation Bible School in Golden Grove, Jamaica while on a short-term mission with Grace Fellowship Church of God in Bogart, Georgia.  After several more trips and VBS programs God called Larry to full time service in Jamaica to specifically serve families who have children with disabilities and families living in severe poverty. Later, God also called Dr. Deborah Curry to this ministry, which she has been well-prepared with over 30 years of experience in special education. The Lord united Larry and Debbie together to serve as partners in life and ministry when they were married in January 2022.

The Areas We Serve

At Starfish Jamaica, our ministry is deeply rooted in the heart of Kingston and its surrounding communities.

“A young girl was walking along a beach upon which thousands of starfish had been washed up during a terrible storm. When she came to each starfish, she would pick it up, and throw it back into the ocean. People watched her with amusement.

She had been doing this for some time when a man approached her and said, “Little girl, why are you doing this? Look at this beach! You can’t save all these starfish. You can’t begin to make a difference!”

The girl seemed crushed, suddenly deflated. But after a few moments, she bent down, picked up another starfish, and hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and replied,

“Well, I made a difference for that one!”— By - Loren C. Eisley “the star thorower”
